The 1991 popular Uprising of Sulaymaniyah City was commemorated in an event organised by a group of students from the Department of Diplomacy and Public Relations at the University of Human Development at Tawar Hall in Sulaymaniyah on 7 March 2024. Sulaymaniyah was the first city in Kurdistan to rise against the authoritarian rule of the Ba’ath Party 33 years ago. People controlled government offices and military barracks in a matter of days. Celebrations and parties are held on the occasion every year.
Organising the event was part of the requirement of the Event Management Course that students in Year Three have to complete.
Several activities were performed at the event. The first was a panel held for two intellectuals: Mr Abbas Abdulrazzaq and Mr Kaiwan Saeed. The second was a poem read by Mr Dler Halabjaee. The third was a hymn chanted by Mr Najm Muhammed. The fourth consisted of several songs by a local singer, Mr Reveen Aras. The event ended with a coffee break for attendees; sweets and refreshments were served.
The organising students were: Lanya Luqman, Redyar Rebwar, Lanya Karwan and Shajwan Azad.
