Law students went on a legal visit to a Correctional Facility

Year 3 students at the Law Department at the University of Human Development visited the Correctional Facility for Women and Children in Sulaymaniyah, which is administered by the General Directorate of Social Reform under the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs of the Kurdistan Regional Government. The visit took place on 24th November. Students were transported by bus from the UHD campus to the correctional facility and back.
The visit was part of the Criminal Law Course that students at Year 3 study. It was organised by the deanery of the College of Law and Politics, supervised, and guided by the course lecturer Dr Zana Rafiq Saeed, and accompanied by Dr Asos Namiq Brakhas, a lecturer at the Law Department.
The purpose of the visit was for students to see where offenders end up, how they are treated, and what sentences they serve. The visit also created a chance for students to talk to the inmates and ask the prison officers questions related to prison management and other issues related to penalties and crime punishment.
