Department of Law holds a seminar on legal execution procedures
2025-03-04
The Department of Law
at the College of Law and Politics, University of Human Development, hosted a
seminar for the chief officer of the Legal Executive Directorate in
Sulaymaniyah, Mr Rebwar Muhammed Rasheed, titled ‘Legal Execution Procedures,
Step by Step,’ in the Seminar Hall on February 4, 2025. The seminar was
moderated by Law Department lecturer Dr Asos Namiq Brakhas, and many students
from the Law Department, along with lecturers from other colleges, attended it. Drawing from his
knowledge and years of experience, Mr Rasheed explained the procedures for
executing court rulings related to overdue loans, both commercial and private,
overdue rents or payments, financial issues between separated couples,
unawarded damages, and many other legal matters where court rulings have not
been implemented or executed. He clarified the steps that must be taken by the
plaintiff to register a complaint with the aforementioned office and the
procedures his directorate follows to ensure that the accused person (who is
ignoring the court ruling) complies with the ruling; otherwise, their immovable
property will be seized by the government, sold, and the proceeds used to
compensate the victim. He also discussed certain prison sentences for violators
of court rulings and the necessary procedures that must be followed. Mr Rasheed
displayed several legal templates used for filing complaints. In civil cases, and
occasionally in criminal cases, the court issues its ruling or decision and
leaves it to the parties involved to implement it. However, if one party
ignores the decision, the other can make a formal request by registering a
complaint with the Legal Executive Directorate to follow up and take action.
The Legal Executive Directorate is responsible for the enforcement of court
decisions and commercial transactions. It is a busy office that collaborates
with different courts and other government agencies.
