The College of Administration and Economics at the University of Human Development organised an international workshop titled ‘The American Tariff and Its Economic Impact’ in the Seminar Hall on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. The workshop hosted Dr Sanaa Abdel Qader Mustafa from the Arab Academy in Denmark, alongside Dr Asad Hamdi Muhammed Maher and Dr Shorsh Qadir Ali from the College of Administration and Economics.

Drawing on their academic expertise and research, the speakers explored the economic consequences of the new American tariff policies during President Trump’s second administration on both local and international markets. Dr Mustafa provided a global perspective on the evolution of US tariffs and their effects on developing economies, while Dr Maher examined how these tariffs have impacted Iraq’s economy. Dr Ali offered a critical analysis of policy responses from affected countries and discussed strategies for economic adaptation in light of tariff fluctuations.

The workshop attracted a diverse audience of faculty members from various colleges as well as students. The event concluded with an interactive discussion where attendees posed questions to the speakers, followed by recommendations on how policymakers and business leaders in Iraq could address the negative effects of these new tariff policies and mitigate their risks.
