Lecturer at the Law Department, Dr Asos Namiq Brakhas,
invited the representative of the Sulaymaniyah Directorate of Citizenship,
Colonel and legal expert Mr Bestun Sleman, for a practical lecture about the
work and responsibilities of his office, including the implementation of Iraq’s
Citizenship Law, No. 26 of the year 2006. The Sulaymaniyah Directorate of
Citizenship and Civil Affairs is a government agency that operates under the
direction of the Kurdistan Regional Government. Mr Sleman delved into the work of his office, the mechanisms
they follow to respond to citizens’ issues, the applications they receive for
citizenship, the challenges they face, and the ways they deal with problems. He
also took questions from the students and listened to their comments. The audience was composed of Year Four students from the Law
Department at the University of Human Development. Dr Brakhas teaches the
module ‘Private International Law.’ It is her conviction that experts from
outside the university can enrich her subject and greatly benefit students with
their work experience.
