College of Law and Politics at the University of Human Development (UHD) organised a panel discussion for three specialists to analyse and debate the Russia-Ukraine war from a theoretical, political and economic point of view. The panel was held at the Seminar Hall on 19th October 2022.

Mr Salam Abdulqadir Abdulrahman, a lecturer at the Diplomacy and Public Relations Department at UHD, looked at the Russian-Ukrainian war from the perspective of two main theories of International Relations, namely Realism and Liberalism. He pointed out that students of International Politics, researchers and academists are expected to use theories for a better and clearer understanding of what is going on in Ukraine.

Dr Tariq Kakarash, an academist and researcher in oil and gas policy, focused on the implication of the war for global energy. He shed light on the recent energy crisis in Europe and argued that the crisis has already spread to other parts of the world including the United States.

Dr Luqman Hakim, a lecturer of International Relations at Halabja University, elaborated on the impacts of the war on the Middle East. He pointed out that the Russian presence in the Middle East or its allies will bring the Ukraine war to the region; the region will be affected in one way or another. Russia directly entered a conflictual relationship with the West when it backed the regime of Bashar Assad in Syria during the uprising in 2011 and after.

The Head of the Diplomacy and Public Relations Department, Mr Kardo Rasheed, moderated the panel.
