The Department of Accounting at the College of Administration and Economics at the University of Human Development held a workshop titled “China and its ability to create a demand shock in the oil and alternative energy markets”.

Mr Shorsh Qadir Ali and Mr Youssef Obaib Hamamin, two lecturers at the aforementioned department, arranged and presented the workshop. They shed light on the importance and role of China in global trade, especially in China's ability to supply and demand in the oil markets and its effective impact on creating a balance between price and quantity. The presenters also explained the latest development of China's capabilities in finding alternative energy for coal and oil and how that would affect the price of oil and the demand for alternative energy in international markets. Coal and oil have been two main important sources of energy for a long time, oil is also a source for many petrochemical products, however, since these resources are finite, they can be very expensive sometimes and their supplies can get interrupted, there have been continuous efforts to find alternative energy. This is an issue for modern China as clarified in the workshop.

The workshop was enriched with questions, comments, and queries from the audience who were members of the academic staff of the Administration and Economics.
