The University of Human Development has launched a campaign to raise funds for the Syrian Kurds who fled their homes during the recent military conflicts in the northeast of Syria. The campaign is being held under the banner of 'Support and solidarity campaign for our brothers and sisters in Rojawa' and will continue for some time to come.
The UHD President, Professor Dr Mariwan Ahmed Rasheed, started the campaign and stated: ‘We are here together – our dear students, university employees, lecturers, and all of us – to contribute to the relief efforts and make this campaign a success.’
The aid is largely money collected from donors for the Kurdish refugees in Syria, especially those affected by the recent conflict there. There is a humanitarian crisis in the northeast of Syria, also known as 'Rojawa' among the Kurds; many families and individuals are now internally displaced and desperate for food and medicine. The money collected at the UHD contributes to the nationwide donations and aid and relief efforts by governmental and non-governmental institutions and organisations, as well as individuals in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, to support the victims of the war in Rojawa.
The current fundraising campaign for the Syrian Kurds by the University of Human Development is already a success. A substantial amount of money has so far been collected, and it will soon reach those in need in Rojawa. The UHD has independently launched but also joined many relief efforts before – nationalistic sentiments and a feeling of closeness to the affected people add to the enthusiasm for the recent donation.
