The president of the University of Human Development Prof. Dr Mariwan Ahmed Rasheed visited Zhianawa Cancer Centre today, 18 September 2023, to witness the operation of the equipment that was gifted to the centre by Prof. Dr Ali Qaradaghi. He was accompanied by his assistants for financial and scientific affairs Asst Prof. Dr Hiwa Abubakir and Prof. Dr Anwar Muhammad Faraj respectively. There at the centre, the UHD team was warmly welcomed by director Dr Bamo Naqshbandi. The cancer treatment device was purchased in Germany and delivered to the centre a few days ago.

Prof. Dr Ali Qaradaghi is the Head of the Board of Trustees of the University of Human Development (UHD) and Secretary-General of the International Union of Muslim Scholars.

A radiation therapy specialist at the centre, Mr Hawbir, hailed the significance of the equipment for treating cancer patients. He gave details and explained the work of its different parts.

For his part, Dr Mariwan Rasheed mentioned that when Dr Qaradaghi became aware of the need for such equipment, he decided to donate one hoping that more cancer patients would benefit from it and that they would not need to go abroad for treatment.

Zhianawa Cancer Centre is a public health centre in Sulaymaniyah. It was founded in 2009, and since then it has been receiving patients from all over Iraq. It uses radiation therapy for cancer patients.

The centre can serve more patients than its current rate if it has the necessary devices, and patients will not have to wait for months to get access to treatment. Many devices at the centre have become old or dysfunctional, they need repair and replacement.

At the end of the visit, Dr Mariwan Rasheed received a thanks letter sent to Dr Ali Qaradaghi from the director of Zhianawa Cancer Centre.
