The President of the University of Human Development, Professor Dr Mariwan Ahmed Rasheed, accompanied by the members of the university’s Presidential Council, including the President’s Assistants for Scientific and Financial Affairs and College Deans, welcomed back the UHD team that successfully participated in Huawei ICT Competition 2024—2025 Global Final in China, during a ceremony organised for them today, 28th May 2025, on UHD campus.
The team consisted of four students from the College of Science and Technology at the University of Human Development (UHD): Areen Omed, Rawaz Mansour, Muhammed Abdullah and Abdullah Taha, who successfully completed the first and second rounds of the competition in both Computing and Cloud Tracks at the national level (Iraq) and regional level (the Middle East), proudly representing their university, UHD, and their country, Iraq, at the Huawei ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Competition 2024—2025 Global Final in China, where they won Third Prize. This was a significant achievement, considering that around 210,000 university students from 2,000 institutions in over 100 countries and regions worldwide participated in the competition, making it challenging to reach the finals. At the ceremony, the UHD President and Presidential Council members welcomed the team with flowers, and the UHD President delivered a speech in which he reiterated that UHD supports its students in the academic and scientific activities both inside and outside the university and the country. He stated that ‘participating in and winning such global competition, which tests students’ knowledge of information technology, is important for us, as it indicates that the study programmes at our university are up-to-date and our lecturers are capable of teaching and training students on the latest information and recent discoveries in the field.’
The President also emphasised that UHD holds a significant scientific position among Kurdistan Region and Iraqi universities, noting that UHD team was the only Iraqi team to enter the competition and successfully secure Third Prize. Thus, Iraq was among the winners at the Global Final, thanks to the knowledge and expertise of the UHD students.
