A University of Human Development alumna has become a successful businesswoman in the Garmiyan region of Iraqi Kurdistan. She is dealing with companies in Iran, Turkey and some other countries on construction materials, food and other commodities. This person is Ms Shler Abdulrahman Mustafa.

Shler studied at the Department of Business Management, College of Administration and Economics, from 2015-2019. She began developing ideas about getting her own business while she was a student and took the first step when she graduated. She was encouraged by her teachers at the university telling her that she ‘could do something’. This was the thought that prompted her to enter the business.

Shler lives in Darbandikhan, a town in the southeast of Sulaymaniyah. She commutes to Kalar almost every day for business. Kalar is an hour’s drive from Darbandikhan to the south. It is the main trade centre in Garmiyan. Shler hopes that the government would offer more support to businesses and more women would have jobs.
