The Manuscripts and Cultural Heritage Unit at the University of Human Development (UHD) held a workshop on 1st December 2022 on the practical steps the Unit has taken to collect manuscripts written by educated and well-known Kurdish families.

UHD President Prof. Dr Mariwan Ahmed Rasheed welcomed the attendees and said that collecting, documenting and digitalising manuscripts written by Kurdish scholars and intellectuals in the past is an important issue for UHD, and for that matter, he said, UHD has established a special unit. He mentioned that the university’s Head of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr Ali Qaradaghi, was very glad at the idea of opening such a unit and has expressed all his support for it.

An interesting discussion followed the president’s speech around the mechanisms of collecting and preserving manuscripts.

The moderator of the workshop, Asst Prof. Dr Hardi Mahdi Mika, referred to past efforts made toward saving priceless manuscripts and reaffirmed the importance of working together to protect and enrich Kurdish culture and heritage.

Many academic and religious dignitaries attended the workshop.
