Students at the College of Nursing and College of Health Sciences at the University of Human Development (UHD) held several activities together to mark World Diabetes Day on 14th November 2022. The disease is rapidly increasing worldwide.

They held two activities on campus and one outside the university. The aim was to spread awareness about diabetes and the many problems associated with it – how to avoid it and how quickly one needs to respond to its early symptoms.

A group of students from these colleges, while directed and supervised by their teachers, provided free tests of blood sugar levels and gave information to their visitors on campus about the health risks of diabetes, its causes and treatments. The same group of students travelled to Majidi Mall shopping centre in Sulaymaniyah in the evening where they provided the same service to visitors at the mall from 4 to 10 pm.

On the same day, a panel was held on the causes and symptoms of diabetes, its different types and complications and the preventative methods, in Prof. Dr Ali Qaradaghi Hall at UHD. The panellists were Dr Bushra Jabar, a nutrition expert and university teacher, Ms Nian Abdulrahman, an infection control nurse, and Mr Hunar Hassan, a lecturer at the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences at UHD. The panel moderator was Ms Ivan Abdulkarim.
