Three lecturers of the University of Human Development (UHD) participated in a joint panel hosted by the third Sulaimani International Book Fair on 25th November 2021. The aim of the panel was to highlight and discuss several important issues related to the situation of books at the present time, the negative impact social media have on books, and things that social-media users should be cautious about.

Prof. Dr Saman Fawzi, head of the Law Department and lecturer at UHD, mentioned some common misconducts on social media and focused on the offence of deformation. He said that deformation is not swearing at other people, it is worse than that and the penalty is more severe.  The second panellist from UHD was Tahsin Hama-Gharib. He talked about books as sanctuaries for readers and said that unfortunately books are generally neglected nowadays, the number of people who read books is decreasing by the day. He continued and said that we should read books because they give us information, expand our understanding, and at the same time they provide us with pleasure and entertainment. The panel moderator was Dr Asos Namiq Brakhas from UHD.

UHD has recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Sulaimani (Sulaymaniyah) International Fair (SIF) to facilitate cooperation between them including making discounts on books for UHD students and the participation of UHD lecturers in the seminars and panels held by SIF.
