Facts and History

University of Human Development (UHD) was founded in 2008 by Professor Dr Ali Al Qaradaghi. UHD is a private non-profit university. It is a leader in social and health sciences and human development through teaching, research, scholarship and innovation. The University of Human Development opened on an Official Order (No. 19211/3) on December 16, 2008, issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdistan Regional Government. It is also licensed by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research according to Ministerial Order (No. 6613) dated September 24, 2017. UHD is recognised as a community leader in providing student-centred learning experiences and preparing students for success in their fields by encouraging progressive thinking, embracing modern technology, and paying attention to the practical side of each speciality.

UHD has noticeably expanded, and currently has six colleges embracing ten departments with a total of over 2500 students.

Safety and Regulations  


While at UHD, you need to look after yourself and be aware of your health and safety. You also need to behave responsibly toward others so that everyone stays safe and healthy and is protected from danger. So, all students must:

-          follow all the health and safety guidelines,

-          use the facilities and equipment in a safe manner and according to the guidelines,

-          ask the staff for information and advice if they are not sure or cannot use the item in question properly,

-          report any hazards or risks to the staff such as broken windows, any problems with the circuit system that may cause electric shock or problems with food and drinks,

-          follow the procedures in case of emergency or evacuation,

-          do not bring any items to the campus that can cause harm or injury such as weapons, knives or toxic materials, and

-          follow the common sense of health and safety if you face a problem for which you cannot find guidance or get advice.

The university has a walk-in clinic for minor health problems. It is free of charge for students and open during the working hours. So please do not hesitate to use the service when needed.

We care about you and your well-being and we want you to have a wonderful time while you are at UHD.


The policies, rules and regulations of the University of Human Development (UHD):

-          Alcohol: Alcohol is not allowed on UHD premises. Failure to follow the rule will lead to disciplinary actions.

-          Bribery and fraud: Bribery and fraud are forbidden in all forms.

-          Complaints: It is the student’s right to report their problems to the administrative staff at their departments.

-          Data protection: Students’ information is protected and treated as confidential.

-          Disabled students: Necessary facilities are provided for students with learning disabilities.

-          Equality: All students must be treated equally regardless of gender, race, religion or ethnicity.

-          Facilities: Necessary learning facilities are provided at the university’s academic departments, each department according to its needs.

-          Harassment: Harassment and bullying are against the law and there will be severe consequences for perpetrators.

-          Illness: Students must report illness to their departments to obtain permission.

-          Library: The university’s library is open on working days from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.

-          Migration: The university provides the Student Support Letter to be used at the government offices for residence permits and settlement.

-          No smoking: Smoking (cigarette, vape, hookah) is not allowed on UHD premises.

-          Plagiarism: Students will receive information about the university’s policy regarding plagiarism from their supervisors before they are given writing assignments.

-          Research: Research is the centrepiece of the university’s academic activities. Teaching staff members are required to publish research articles in national and international journals, and they are expected to involve their students in research activities.
