Dr Omed Hassan Ahmed, a lecturer at the University of Human Development and the team leader at the Huawei ICT Competition 2024-25, was praised for successfully leading the UHD team. He was recognised as an effective instructor and the best among his peers.
The Huawei ICT (Information and Communications Technology) Competition is an annual event held for university students. It aims to showcase and enhance students’ ICT knowledge and practical skills. The competition is first conducted at the state level. Successful students then participate at the regional level, and finally, those who win travel to China to compete in the final rounds for prizes including the Grand Prize, First, Second, and Third Prizes, as well as other honourable awards.
The UHD team, which consists of four students from the College of Science and Technology, has managed to win the initial rounds, and they are confident that they will win prizes. Over 1,200 universities from 24 countries participated in the 2024-25 competition, with six universities remaining to compete in the final rounds. Dr Omed Hassan Ahmed was among the successful instructors, and he is certainly the first Kurdish instructor capable of effectively leading and guiding his students through the competition.
Last year, UHD students reached the final and won the First Prize. This was a significant achievement since two out of the three students who comprised the Iraqi team were from UHD, and thanks to the knowledge and expertise of the UHD students, Iraq was among the winners of the First Prize in the competition.
