Workshop: Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and its applications
2022-06-28
The College of Science and Technology at the
University of Human Development held a training workshop on 8th June
2022, titled ‘Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and its applications’. It was
delivered by Prof. Dr Muzhir Shaban Muhammed and Lecturer Ms Hamsa Dhia Majeed.
The workshop focused on DWT which has a huge
number of applications in science, engineering, mathematics and computer
science. and it is used for signal coding to represent a discrete signal in a
more redundant form, often as a preconditioning for data compression. It elaborated on the advantages of DWT as well.
One of the main advantages of wavelets, as discussed in the workshop, is that
they offer a simultaneous localisation in time and frequency domain. Another
advantage of wavelets is that, using fast wavelet transform, it is
computationally very fast; wavelets have the great advantage of being able to
separate the fine details in a signal.
