AI Student crowned champion at UHD 2026 Chess Tournament

The University of Human Development’s Student Unit recently hosted a competitive chess tournament, bringing together 16 skilled players from across various colleges and departments. The tournament followed a ‘single-elimination’ format, where a single loss resulted in an exit from the competition.
The final showdown featured Hawsar Jaza, a third-year Law student, and Muhammed Faris, a first-year AI student. In a three-round battle, Muhammed Faris secured victory in two rounds to claim the title of Tournament Champion.
University President Professor Dr Mariwan Ahmed Rasheed presided over the awards ceremony, congratulating the finalists and presenting medals and trophies. He was joined by several university leaders, including Assistant President for Financial Affairs, Asst Prof. Dr Hiwa Abubakir Ali; Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr Anwar Muhammed Faraj; and the Dean of the College of Law and Politics, Asst Prof. Dr Kannan Hamagharib Abdullah.
