A memorial service was held for the late University of Human Development (UHD) employee Mr Rekawt Ali Muhammad on the 40th day at Prof. Dr Ali Qadaghi Hall on Sunday, 2nd October 2022.

At the ceremony, UHD teachers, employees, students and family members of the deceased gathered to honour him and pray for Allah’s mercy on him.

The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran which was followed by a recorded video from the UHD President Prof. Dr Mariwan Ahmed Rasheed who thanked the gathering and expressed his condolences to the late employee’s family and friends. He asked Allah to give the deceased rest and peace in the afterlife. Dr Mariwan could not attend the ceremony in person as he was attending a conference abroad.

A brother of Rekawt read out a statement on behalf of his family. He thanked and praised the coming of all those gathered there – it meant a lot for them. The life and work of Rekawt were then shown to the attendees in a short video.

Significant dignitaries – Kurdistan Sewkani, advisor to the Iraqi president, and Saman Abdulsammad, president of Ashti Football Club – participated with statements citing the important work of Rekawt as a member of the administrative staff of Ashti Football Club.

The ceremony ended with the lighting of 33 candles to symbolise the 33 years of age of late Rekawt.

Rekawt died in a gas fire accident on 21st August 2022. He was the director of the UHD accounting office.
