گەشتی وان.. زانست و گەڕان

After 19 hours of a long distant travel in a bus, we finally made it to the Yuzinci Yil university campus in the evening. The dorm of the university was meant to be our home for the 10 coming days, so we took a group photo and entered the rooms that were provided for us to take some rest and initiate our activities in the day after.
On August 17, 2017, a group of UHD students from College of Languages left Slemani toward the city of Van in Northern Kurdistan. The group consisted of 15 students, 2 teachers and a guide and were a part of an exchanging program between the two universities. Professor Dr. Mariwan and professor assistant Dr. Rauf attended the departure of the students to wish them a good journey and say goodbye.
Despite the long journey, we wondered "how long it will take for us to arrive to Van?", and as soon as we arrived, our tiredness disappeared by the fabulous views of the city.
The next morning and after breakfast, the group headed to a nearby beach at Van lake. It was a lake, but a large one that ships could easily pass through. Van's lake is six times bigger than Dukan Lake, which makes it the biggest lake in Turkey.
The group arrived at Van city at the weekend, so they had time to rest. We took advantage of the weekend to go shopping.
The time we spent shopping gave us an opportunity to get to know the locals. Strange things could be seen at the city of Van such as the buses with 14 passenger seats only that carried 39 passengers! When meeting each other, the locals instead of kissing on the cheeks, they hit their heads against each other!
On Monday, the university reopened after the weekend. The president of Yuzunci Yil joined our students for breakfast. Afterwards, the group attended a seminar by Dr. Mamat Mateen Barlik. He spoke about character and personality. "You can't change your character, but your personality is under your control. So, make your personality represent your character in the best way".
We all enjoyed the way he presented his seminar of that Kurdish teacher, he was even singing in the mid of his seminar, as he is an artist and has a show on TRT6 channel.
The journey contained many activities. The group visited the cat house to see the unique species of cat that the city is well known for. We also visited Van Castle from where you can see the entire city and its lake. As our journey was coming to an end, we met the mayor of Van. We finished our journey at Ahtamara Island.
University of Human Development fully sponsored the trip which ended on August 26. The students traveled back safely on that date after recording wonderful memories.
